Project Plan & Infusion Path
Planetary
A variety of planetary mission infusion pathways are planned for the coming decades, including landed missions to Europa or Enceladus, flyby missions to Enceladus, Ceres Lander, Titan Lander or Lake Explorer, landed Mars missions, and Venus atmosphere missions. The OWLS suite is designed so that any or all components could be adopted for these differing mission configurations depending on specific science goals and mission resources.
Human Spaceflight
OWLS hardware could be retrofitted for spaceflight environmental monitoring on the International Space Station or other human spacecraft.
Commercial
OWLS hardware represents leading-edge portable analytical hardware that could be commercialized. Chemical analysis systems are developed in collaboration with SCIEX corporation, the world leader in CE-ESI-MS systems. Possible application areas include biomedical diagnostics, water quality, and food or pharmaceutical process monitoring.
Other Government (Non-NASA) Applications
OWLS could be modified for specific applications of interest to DOE/EPA (environmental monitoring, wastewater remediation, etc.), NSF/NOAA (chemical/biological oceanography, harmful algal bloom monitoring, etc.), USDA (precision agriculture, etc), or other applications.
