Engineers at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, awaited the final transmission from the Cassini spacecraft as it plunged into Saturn's atmosphere ending its 20-year voyage of discovery.

Mission Control: Systems ACS 1. We just had condition high rate mode. And we are in the atmosphere. We have loss of signal at [unintelligible].
Project manager. Flight director.
Go ahead.
Julie Webster: We call loss of signal at 11:55:46.
Earl Maize: This is project manager on FSO co-ord. There may be a trickle of telemetry left, but you just heard the signal from the spacecraft is gone and, in the next 45 seconds, so will be the spacecraft.
I hope you're all as deeply proud of this amazing accomplishment. Congratulations to you all! This has been an incredible mission, an incredible spacecraft, and you're all an incredible team!
