Watch Auroras Dance Over Saturn's South Pole
Jet Propulsion Laboratory https://www.jpl.nasa.gov/ July 28, 2017
NASA's Cassini spacecraft gazed toward high southern latitudes near Saturn's south pole to observe ghostly curtains of dancing light -- Saturn's southern auroras, or southern lights.
Transcript
These ghostly curtains of light are Saturn's auroras, seen from NASA's Cassini spacecraft. Cassini saw this natural light show while gazing toward the south
pole on Saturn's night side. Stars pass behind the planet. Some stars appear to
change direction as their light is bent by Saturn's atmosphere.
Cassini took the images in this looped movie sequence over about an hour on July 20, 2017.
